Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language

The University of San Francisco is pleased to offer its Teaching English as a Second Language program at the Cupertino Regional Campus.

The next South Bay cohort is scheduled to begin in Spring 2010.

In classThis is a joint program with the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) Extension. Students who have earned a TESL Certificate through UCSC Extension over the last seven years are eligible for the Cupertino MATESL Program.

All UCSC Extension TESL Certificate courses will transfer to USF. Students then take the following 6 courses (16 semester units) in Cupertino to complete the MATESL degree.

  • IME 630 - TESL Theory & Practice (3 units)
  • IME 633 - Preparation & Evaluation of TESL Materials (3 units)
  • IME 668 - Discourse, Pragmatics, & Language Teaching (3 units)
  • IME 698 - Special Topics (1 unit)
  • GEDU 603 - Methods of Educational Research (3 units)
  • IME 638 - TESL Field Project (3 units)
