News and Events - USF Merit Award Winner

Congratulations to Sr. Jeanne Hagelskamp, S.P., Ed.D., Director of the Teacher Education Program and Assistant Professor at the School of Education for receiving a USF Merit Award!

Colleagues say that if there was only one person they could choose to be cloned, it would be this Merit Award Winner. "If there were 28 hours in the day, she'd work all of them, too!" they declare. Sr. Jeanne is the living example of service for the common good over and above her own concerns.

She juggles her multiple roles as a department director, faculty member, and member of her spiritual community in the spirit of joy and giving. A theme that came up when her nomination was presented was "This is a woman for others... someone who epitomizes the vision, values and mission of the University of San Francisco."

Within the USF community, Sr. Jeanne is considered a bridge builder. With unstinting generosity, she takes the jobs that others will not do...and then improves the function, service or program beyond expectations.

Outside the community, she freely gives her time and energy to support, advise and mentor novice sisters of her order. Her spirit of giving includes making Thanksgiving dinners and distributing them to the homeless, and making donations to needy foundations in other people's names as her Christmas gift to them.

Her peers declare that "she lives out the social justice model that others are still trying to figure out." Her colleagues agree that she is direct and to the point with amazing tact, but still one of the few people who manages to be friends with everyone in her School. Her example of a "good life" is considered a model for living the values of the University.
