PLANNING FOR SAN FRANCISCO
Weather in San Francisco is cool and foggy, particularly during June and July. You will definitely want to bring some warm clothes, such as sweaters, sweatshirts, and a jacket so that you can layer them with shirts. Some days start off cold, but once the fog clears, they are somewhat warmer. Bring walking shoes, too, to negotiate the beautiful SF hills.

ICEL AS A COMMUNITY
ICEL is a community of educational scholars committed to the Catholic schools by reason of their relationship with the People of God. ICEL is a community that socializes, prays, and studies together. It is a community that gives service. All four components are important. We, therefore, urge all of our students, both those in residence at the University and those living in the Bay Area, to set aside time each week to celebrate liturgy (with socials to follow) together and to enjoy one another's company in our community festivities. Our liturgies and socials are an essential part of ICEL. In addition, your fellow students desire and deserve your presence at their graduation from the program.
Please see the SummerWest Calendar for a schedule of liturgies, socials and graduation.
Because service is a vital component of Catholic education, ICEL asks that all students who receive a reduced tuition give back to the ICEL community one hour of service per semester unit of credit. There are numerous jobs and projects available through the ICEL office. Volunteers are needed for each liturgy and social and will serve as the coordinators. If you play an instrument, you are invited to share your musical talents with us at liturgy. If your instrument is portable, please bring it!
Sign up for volunteer opportunities at orientation. Opportunities are listed below:
Office Assistance: Among the volunteer positions available are Professor's Assistant, ICEL Office Assistant, Care Room Assistant, Bulletin Board Designer, Photographer, Vendor of Souvenirs.
Care Room Coordinator: Oversees set up and clean up of Care Room; buys supplies and directs set up/clean up volunteers.
Liturgy: Students volunteering for these positions will be asked to participate in the organization and preparation of liturgical services, including music.
Socials: The volunteers for each social will purchase snacks, set up the social, and clean up at the conclusion of the social.
ICEL COMMUNITY FEE
The community fee is used for refreshments in the care room, at the weekly socials, the welcome luncheon, and other items that represent us all. The community fee of $25 (cash please) will be collected at Orientation.
If you have questions as you attempt to complete the registration process, or if you have other concerns, please feel free to call or email Janet Snyder. Phone: 415-422-2083; e-mail:
