Oxford Symposium in School-Based Family Counseling

The Oxford Symposium in School-Based Family Counseling is the annual conference of the Institute for School-Based Family Counseling; the Symposium is co-sponsored by the University of San Francisco Center for Child and Family Development and is made possible in part by grant funds. The Symposium meets at our Brasenose College, Oxford home in even years (2008, 2010, 2012) and elsewhere in odd-numbered years (2007, 2009, 2011).
Upcoming Oxford Symposium in Barcelona
The 2009 Oxford Symposium in School-Based Family Counseling will be held at Universitat de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain from July 12th to 17th 2009.
Conference Format
The Oxford Symposium is an invited, residential, international conference limited to around twenty-five Members—a number small enough to promote cohesion and a high level of participation in this intimate think-tank setting. The conference program begins on the Sunday afternoon and ends after lunch on the Friday and is organized along similar lines each year. The proceedings are held in English. The links below give program details of the six previous Oxford Symposia in School-Based Family Counseling, including the full schedule of presentations and the cultural program.
Sponsoring Organizations
The Institute for School-Based Family Counseling exists to promote the development of School-Based Family Counseling as a discipline through multiculturally sensitive programs that educate mental health professionals, educators, and the general public on the nature and value of School Based-Family Counseling. The University of San Francisco Center for Child and Family Development is committed to the academic, psychological, social and spiritual development of children and families through teaching, research and direct service programs in School-Based Family Counseling; the purpose of the Center is to provide children and families (particularly under-served children and families) with a variety of culturally sensitive family counseling services.
Mission
The objective of the Symposium is to make visible the “invisible college” of international experts in School-Based Family Counseling and to provide opportunity for information exchange, co-operation and collegial networking. We have established the International Council for School-Based Family Counseling and the International Journal of School-Based Family Counseling with the mission to create an internationally available and cross-culturally relevant databank of best practice in School-Based Family Counseling.
