The teaching credential/internship programs prepare students for professional service as teachers, particularly in the state of California. Students who successfully complete these programs are recommended by USF to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for the Preliminary Multiple Subject or Single Subject with optional Bilingual Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development (BLCAD) Emphasis Teaching Credential. Single Subject Credentials are offered in English, math, science, and social science.
Consistent with the University's mission and Jesuit heritage, the Teacher Education programs reflect a special focus on philosophical inquiry, social justice and concern for individual differences in the development of children. The curriculum is designed to integrate and connect academic coursework with field experience, and to prepare graduates to assume leadership roles in both public and private schools.
Students in our programs work closely with the Teacher Education faculty, who are highly regarded for their scholarship and their commitment to social justice and community. Our classes are small compared with other teacher education programs.
