Program Structure

The Master of Arts in Digital Media and Learning (DML) is a 30-unit program. Most courses are 3 units each; thus, a nominal program consists of 10 courses. The DML program is designed to accommodate adult students, most of whom have full-time jobs and other obligations.

Scheduling

During the regular academic year, most classes meet on an "alternate weekend" schedule: Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons, about twice a month, for a total of 9 sessions of about 5 hours each. During the regular academic year, there may be courses which meet during the work week, to accommodate students in the Teaching Credential Program and others for whom week nights are better than weekends. The program also uses the summer session rather intensively, to accommodate those in educational professions. In contrast to the regular academic year, most summer classes meet during the 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. time slot, every day, for one, two, or three weeks, depending on scheduling and unit requirement factors. A few classes may meet in the evening, to accommodate those working during summer months.

Transfer Credit

Up to six semester units of appropriate, accredited, graduate work from other universities may be accepted as transfer credit toward the 30 total, subject to the approval of the program advisor and the dean. Those with University of California Extension Program credits in Educational Computing may transfer in up to 12 units, subject to approval by the program advisor and the dean. University of San Francisco candidates for the Teaching Credential are eligible for the Credential/DML degree option, and may apply 15 units of credential courses toward the DML degree, with approval. Teaching Credential applicants are strongly advised to apply for simultaneous admission to the Credential program and the DML program. (Your application will go first to the Teaching Credential program; then, if approved, to the DML program advisor. Only one application and set of materials are needed.)
