Spotlight Teacher: Lisa Tortorich

“Teachers have a passion for what they do. Clearly their goal is to ignite that same passion in students. As a high school teacher for over 14 year, I learned first hand about the challenges of implementing effective teaching tools and strategies. My greatest rewards came from sharing technology integration ideas and curriculum with students and colleagues in an effort to inspire that passion for learning.”
Cutting edge pedagogy and innovative authentic courses are just two of the reasons why Lisa's students find her so compelling an educator. Lisa structures her courses in the DML program so as to immerse her students in situated learning environments where they acquire, develop, and use pedagogical tools and strategies key to technology integration.

A trailblazer in the development of online courses and curricula, Lisa's broad professional experience in both the public and private sectors including her background as a teacher and consultant, have contributed immeasurably to the DML program.

Director of online services at knowvation.com, Ms. Tortorich has worked for many years with the corporate community in designing professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and other professionals in education. In addition Lisa has produced educational materials for CNET, Intel, Oracle, and Educational Object Economy, a Java-based solutions project sponsored by Apple Computer.

“I found Lisa's courses to be enormously valuable and meaningful to my professional development as an educator. Her teaching was equally inspiring. She infuses her class with a wonderful enthusiasm and excitement for learning. Best of all, I loved her hands-on approach and the way she built connections to the real world. After having Lisa, I can really appreciate how educational technology ratchets up learning in the classroom!”
