Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential (BCLAD optional)

Optional Bilingual Crosscultural Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) Emphasis information below.

Admissions Requirements

To be admitted to the teaching credential programs, applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university. In addition to the general requirements for admission to the School of Education, applicants must also show that they have met the California basic skills requirement and demonstrate that they have subject matter competency in the areas in which they intend to teach.

Candidates for the Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, can meet the basic skills requirement and demonstrate subject matter competency by passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) and the Multiple Subjects California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET). An alternative is for these candidates to pass the CSET: Writing Skills Exam in lieu of the CBEST.

All credential students also choose and enroll in one of the master's programs listed on the Degree Plans page and in the links on the left.
