Requirements
Mild/Moderate Clear Level II Education Specialist Credential
TIER 1 (First Year)
6-12 Units in the Summer
Science and Early Literacy courses at the beginning of the summer for those who do not have a single or multiple subject credential (3 units each).
A two-week Beginning Teacher Preparation Intensive at the end of the summer (6 units).
8 Units in the Fall and 8 Units in the Spring
These classes address the foundations of teaching and special education, technology integration, special education laws and processes, working with students, peers, and parents.
TIER 2 (Second Year)
8 Units
These classes address literacy teaching skills, classroom management techniques, and more advanced special education methods and teaching strategies.
Master's Degree (optional)
6 Units
One course addresses research in special education; the second course (which is offered as a directed study under the supervision of a full time faculty advisor) requires the development of a field project or thesis.
