Patricia Mitchell

Dr. Mitchell has over three decades of experience working with school districts, major corporations, industry, religious organizations, training of teachers, designing curricula, conducting leadership workshops, and designing instructional materials. She has had extensive experience in all levels of public education, ranging from preschool through doctoral level teaching. Dr. Mitchell was selected for inclusion in the 2004-2005 edition of the Empire's Who's Who of Business Executives. She was included in the 2003/2004, 2001/2002 edition of the International Who's Who of Professionals. Dr. Mitchell was conferred with an honorary appointment to the Professional Women's Advisory Board for 2002 and 1999. During the same year, she was nominated for the prestigious title of Woman of the Year. She has been honored as an Outstanding Woman of America and has been selected as an Outstanding American for 2002-2003, 1998 and 1999. Additionally, Dr. Mitchell has been selected as Who's Who in the West for 2002-2003, 1995- 1996, 1992-1993, 1984-1986; Who's Who Among American Women for 1986-87, 1997-1998, and Who's Who in American Education for 2001/2002, 1998-1999,1995-1998,1992-1993. Dr. Mitchell serves on the Solano County of Education Strategic Planning Committee and has served as the Chief Judge for the San Francisco Chronicle Spelling Bee for the past eight years. She has been the recipient of two awards from the Benicia Unified School District for 1992. One was the Outstanding School Volunteer Award and the second was the Golden Rule Award offered by J.C. Penny. Dr. Mitchell was awarded the Benicia Unified School District Partnership Award (1996) for her volunteer work in the district. She was the recipient of the 2002 Outstanding Faculty Award presented by the USF School of Education Alumni Society and the recipient of the Faculty Award presented by the USF Black Alumni Association in September 1994. Dr. Mitchell is the past president of the USF Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International and is presently serving as advisor and delegate. She has just been elected the Area 2J Coordinator for Phi Delta Kappa. Additionally, she is presently the Chair of the Organization and Leadership Program, Chair of the School of Education Faculty Association and a member of the USF Faculty Association Policy Board. Dr. Mitchell is also an accomplished writer and has published in the areas of organizational management and leadership, curriculum development, reading and language arts. Her most acclaimed book, Cracking the Wall: Women in Higher Education Administration, has become a best seller for the publisher. Two other books are forthcoming, A New Era: The Female Leader and Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Career.

Dr. Mitchell has been the keynote speaker for several major conferences. Some of these conferences include: The President's Commission on the Status of Women, University of California, Long Beach; the California Community College Chief Student Services Administrators Association Conference; Women in Leadership Conference; American Council on Education/National Identification Program of Arkansas; The Employment Equity Network, Montreal, Canada, and the 10th Annual Conference for the Advancement of Women in Higher Education, Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Mitchell made two presentations at the 3rd International Conference on Education being held in Hawaii during January 2005.
