The USF School of Education offers doctoral programs (Ed.D.) in
Catholic School Leadership,
International and Multicultural Education (with or without an emphasis in Second Language Acquisition),
Learning and Instruction, and
Organization and Leadership. This section presents a detailed outline of each program's degree plan (see navigation on the left). Use this information to map out the classes required for your entire degree.
The doctoral program is comprised of 60 units: 12 units from the General Education Curriculum, 18 units from your specific program curriculum, 18 elective units, and 12 units in dissertation development, research and writing.
The dissertation, which is undertaken after completion of doctoral coursework, is a demonstration of the candidate's ability to bring theoretical and practical knowledge to the solutions relevant to each degree. Click here for a list of recent School of Education student dissertations.
Because the doctoral program is designed for full-time working professionals, courses are taught evenings and on Saturdays. Students may accelerate their programs by taking offerings during intersession (January) and summer sessions. For more information on class offerings, please refer to the class schedule.
Please Note | The initial admission to a School of Education doctoral program is a preliminary decision. During their first year, students develop a portfolio in order to demonstrate competence in research methodology and department-specific content. Completion of portfolio requirements is necessary for final admission into a doctoral program.
