USF Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International
Membership Grows, Glows and Graduates

University of San Francisco Chapter, Phi Delta Kappa International, the Professional
Association in Education welcomed eleven new members to the local Chapter with
a special ceremony at their Spring 2006 Initiation Dinner. The newly inducted
members were Silvia Ramirez, Enomwoyi Brenda Booker, Leslie Krongold, Jeffery
T. LaBelle, S. J., B. Cornell Matthews, Marta Morales, Britt McNany, Amber Picou,
Arvind Ramakirshman, Monica Santos and Sarah Khan.
The new members, along with the Spring 2006 Initiation Dinner guests, were
given a special presentation by panelist members representing USF at the 2006
Hawaii International Conference on Education headed by Dr. Patricia Mitchell
and Dr. Betty Taylor. Highlights of the panel topic, Emerging Issues in Higher
Education and Faculty Development, was presented by panelist Leandra Powell
Martin on Great College Teaching; Amber Picou on Hip Hop Feminism: Perspectives
on Leadership, Curriculum and Learning; Melvinia Turner King on Teaching Ethical
Leadership: Societal Leadership Models; Mouwafac Sidaoui on Education, Leadership,
and Organizational Culture in the United Arab Emirates: A Vision for the Future;
Marta Frias Morales on Mexican-Americans in the Struggle for Equality; Monica
Santos on Supporting Students of Color in Higher Education: An Analysis of Participants
in UC Berkeley’s Summer Bridge Program; Sarah Khan and Monica Santos on
Service Learning in Higher Education The Impact of California’s Proposed
Service Learning Mandate; Lily Benavides on The Future Development of the Female
CEO; and Silvia Ramirez on Steps to Improving Test Scores: A Team Effort. A
video production of the 2006 Hawaii International Conference on Education provided
a spectacular finale for the event.
Special recognition and congratulations were extended to USF Phi Delta Kappa
Chapter President, Valerie L. Skinner-Martin along with PDK members, Donna Caughman,
Laura Harris, Hollis Pierce, Sr., Kathryn Klackner, Sandy Mulkern-Kolosey, Teshami
Reid, Richard Caron Roi, Valarie L. Skinner-Martin and John Derek Thompson celebrating
the May 2006 graduates.
