CSAC's Cal Grant T Program
The CSAC’s Cal Grant T Program applies to selected School of Education students:

Eligibility
|
Students who have a baccalaureate degree and who are admitted to, and enrolled in, one of the School of Education’s teacher credential programs are eligible. This program is for both new and continuing students.

Conditions
|
Students who accept a Cal Grant T Award must agree to teach at a low-performing elementary or secondary school for one year for each $2,000 in grant assistance received for up to four years. If the service requirement is not completed, recipients must repay a portion of the award.

Amount
|
The award is for one year; successful applicants can receive up to $9,700 in tuition assistance.
|
|
Deadline
|
Early March.

Application
|
Eligible students are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) AND the Cal Grant T GPA Verification Form. Both forms are available from the USF Financial Aid Office and at the regional campuses. They can also be downloaded from the California Student Aid Commission.

Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE)
The APLE program is a state-funded competitive teacher incentive program administered by the CSAC. It is primarily designed to encourage outstanding students who want to become K-12 teachers: 1) in subject areas where a critical shortage has been identified (math, science, special education) or 2) in designated schools that meet the criteria established by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Eligibility
|
USF applicants for APLE must be currently enrolled candidates for a K-12 credential and must be nominated by the School of Education.
|

Conditions
|
Eligible students must intend to become K-12 teachers.
|
|
Amount
|
Up to $19,000 (base: $11,000) at the K-12 level.
|
|
Deadline
|
July is usually the priority deadline for the APLE program (eligible applications can be accepted after the priority deadline until the award allocation has been made).

CSU Forgivable Loan/Doctoral Incentive Program
The Forgivable Loan/Doctoral Incentive Program provides financial assistance to graduate students and is designed to increase the diversity of persons qualified to fill instructional faculty positions at California State University (CSU) campuses.

Eligibility
|
This program is directed by the California State University but is open to new and continuing full-time doctoral students at accredited universities. Previous enrollment in the CSU is not required. However, each applicant must be sponsored by a full-time tenured/tenure-track CSU faculty member.

Conditions
|
Eligible students must be interested in a teaching career in the CSU system.
|
|
Amount
|
The program provides a stipend of $10,000 per year, up to a total of $30,000 within 5 years, to full-time doctoral students for up to three years of doctoral studies. Participants who obtain a CSU faculty position will have 20% of their loan forgiven for each year of full-time postdoctoral teaching at a CSU campus.
